Developing software requires both art and craft to create a successful project and to lead a team that excels at what it does. In this talk Stephen Quirke, from StrategyWorks, walks us through the similarities between successful water colours and great teams.

Abstract

After completing hundreds of project workshops, many many strategy sessions, with coaching support, I understand something of this business of assisting leaders and teams.  I also understand something about watercolour.  As a watercolourist I continually come across similarities between the principles governing the creation of successful watercolours and perspectives leading to effective life and business.

In this presentation I will bring my two worlds together.  I am going to paint a watercolour and talk through some lessons in design that highlight lessons we can use in our business.

Speaker Profile

Stephen Quirke

For the last 12 years Stephen through StrategyWorks, has been assisting leaders, who choose to collaborate, and their teams, with conversations on strategy, plans and focussed action.  Usually the goal is unclear and the subject area is daunting in size and complexity.  Sometimes obvious and unconscious obstacles cause confusion, helplessness and alienation.

After working with StrategyWorks, leaders and their teams engage with where they want to go and what they will do to succeed.

Prior to consulting Stephen spent 15 years as an internal facilitator and consultant in the corporate environment. He has a BSc in Chemistry and Geology, an MSc in Materials Engineering, and, for his sins, a diploma in Accounting.  He is currently engaged in studies towards an MA in coaching through Middlesex University.
